NASA Continues to Fund EpiSci to Develop New 5G Technology for Lunar Communications

5G-MOSAIC Will Utilize AI/ML Technology to Enhance Communication Capabilities in Critical Environments

Poway, CA July 10 2024 – EpiSci, a leader in autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) software for national security, announced that they have been awarded Phase II funding from NASA to continue developing a new 5G lunar communications network.  In a world first, EpiSci’s 5G Mission-Critical Sidelink for Autonomous and Interoperable Communications (5G-MOSAIC) will enable a flexible, reliable, and interoperable lunar communication infrastructure.

EpiSci is honored to continue supporting NASA and we are confident that through this collaboration astronauts will be safer, seamlessly connected, and better prepared,” said Bo Ryu, EpiSci Founder and CEO.

The complexity of NASA’s lunar missions requires innovative technologies that can support increasing data volumes and communication system performance enhancements. EpiSci’s proven 5G team will incorporate AI and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms across various layers of their 5G protocol stack to enable communications, even when a base-station is unavailable.  5G-MOSAIC will provide relay capabilities to increase the range of communication, smart routing, and multi-hop technology to sustain optimal connectivity in adverse lunar environments.

Through a commitment to software-first methodologies, EpiSci offers scalable autonomy solutions that transcend traditional platform limitations. EpiSci orchestrates diverse platforms for the warfighter on Land, Air, Sea and Space. “We are thrilled that NASA continues to choose EpiSci.  Their continued trust, in our Team and our technology, over the years, to meet their demands of intricate mission-critical environments, is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our team,” stated, Ryu.
